Suzy Carney

Managing Director, Carney Jobs LLC, Executive Search and Direct Hire Division

I’ve always been a connector.  I began my career with the Greater Philadelphia Venture Group, then part of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and ultimately spent 11 years leading the organization. It put me in the middle of Greater Philadelphia’s business and entrepreneurial community, working with entrepreneurs, investors and business leaders who were building companies, creating jobs and growing our region.

I later joined CBIZ MHM as National Marketing Director, broadening my experience across a national professional services organization focused on data analytics and trends. But in 2014, my career took a more personal turn when I joined my family at The Carney Group.

My family has been helping companies find great people — and helping great people find the right opportunities — since 1992, when my mom and dad founded The Carney Group. When I joined the business, I quickly realized how naturally my own career had prepared me for recruiting. I had spent years building relationships, understanding businesses, connecting people and learning how organizations grow.

In 2025, I took that experience — and a piece of the family business — and launched Carney Jobs.

Carney Jobs carries forward more than three decades of recruiting experience, relationships and reputation, but with an approach that is distinctly my own. I believe recruiting should be personal. I want to understand the organization behind the job description: its culture, its challenges, its personalities and what success will actually look like once someone is sitting in the seat. Then I go find that person.

I’m a proud Mountie and King’s Monarch, and my Greater Philadelphia roots run deep. Relationships have been at the center of my career from the beginning, and many of the clients, candidates and business leaders I work with today have come through relationships built over decades.

Along the way, I’ve been honored to receive the King’s College Leo Award for Outstanding Achievement in Profession and the Early Stage East Raymond Rafferty Memorial Award. But what still means the most is hearing that someone we placed years ago is thriving — or having a client call again when it’s time to make their next important hire.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT SUZY

Where are your roots?

Born in South Jersey, raised in North Wales, PA, and now living in Conshohocken. Greater Philadelphia has always been home — with plenty of time spent down the Shore, too.

What was your first job?

Babysitting! But apparently simply babysitting wasn’t enough for me. I designed my own business cards and handed them out around the neighborhood. The entrepreneurial streak started early.

What do you love most about recruiting?

The moment when you realize, this is the person. A résumé can tell you what someone has done, but it can’t tell you the whole story. I love getting to know what makes an organization tick, understanding what they really need and then finding the person who can make a difference there. Some of the placements I’m proudest of are people who joined our clients years ago and are still thriving today.

What do you want a Carney Jobs client to know about you?

I take every search personally. When a client trusts us with an important hire, they’re trusting me to represent their organization in the marketplace — and I don’t take that lightly. I’m going to ask a lot of questions, listen carefully, tell you what I’m seeing and put my name behind the candidates I present.

What's something your career taught you before you ever became a recruiter?

How to read a room, build genuine relationships and connect the dots. I spent years working with entrepreneurs, executives, investors and business leaders before I officially became a recruiter. That experience taught me that the best person on paper isn't always the right person for the organization — and that understanding people matters just as much as understanding a résumé.

What does being a Mountie mean to you?

When you first walk through the doors of Mount Saint Joseph Academy as a young teenager, the world can feel like a pretty intimidating place. By the time you walk back out those doors four years later, you’ve been given an incredible gift: the confidence to believe there really isn't much you can't do if you're willing to work for it.

The Mount has been nurturing, challenging and developing generations of women to become leaders in their careers, their communities and their lives. I’m incredibly proud to be a Mountie — and proud to be one of those women.

What does being a King’s Monarch mean to you?

King’s has always felt like home to me. I met some of my closest lifelong friends there, I’m a second-generation graduate, and my brother is a fellow Monarch. And there’s a little family bragging right involved: the Carney tally for King’s is three graduates to Penn State’s two — something we’re always happy to point out!

I’ve stayed connected to the College over the years, including helping raise money for the Presidential Hope Fund, which supports current King’s students in need.

What might surprise people about you?

I genuinely enjoy doing laundry. Yes, really. There’s something extremely satisfying about an empty hamper.

What does your perfect weekend look like?

A great workout, sitting on the deck, good food and time down the Shore in Sea Isle. Put the Eagles or Phillies on and I’m locked in.

What's in your glass?

When it’s cold, a good glass of red wine. In the summer, you’ll probably find me with a Surfside can in my hand.

Favorite sports team?

Asking me to pick just one Philly team isn't really fair. I’ve been a Sixers fan since meeting Allen Iverson and Pat Croce at a Chamber of Commerce event early in my career, and the Eagles have always been appointment television.

But my favorite time of year is when the seasons overlap and I can flip through the channels and find the Birds, the Phils, the Flyers and the Sixers all on my TV. That's a pretty great night in Philadelphia.

Favorite quote?

“Don’t get caught watching the paint dry.” — Hoosiers

It’s my favorite movie, but that line has always stuck with me for a bigger reason. You can’t spend your life waiting to see how things turn out — or being afraid to put yourself out there in the first place. Whether it’s an interview, a new job, a first date, sometimes you just have to take a chance on yourself. Make the call. Have the conversation. Ask the question. You’d be surprised how often you can get to “yes” simply because you asked.

There are a lot more memories to make, relationships to build and lives to impact when you’re willing to go for it.
